Fun Facts about the Caribbean Region
The Caribbean Region, with its warm climate and beautiful beaches, stands out mostly for its flat terrain, but it also has the highest coastal mountain formation in the world: the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. On its coasts is the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta Sanctuary, which is composed of mangroves, forests, rivers, streams and marshes.
This place is of great importance as a refuge for migratory birds from North America.
Fauna and flora of the region.
Capurganá, located in the biogeographic region of Chocó in Colombia, is home to a diverse and captivating fauna. The surrounding forests and coastal areas are filled with a wide variety of fascinating creatures.
From colorful birds like toucans flitting through the trees to playful monkeys swinging in the branches, the wildlife in Capurganá is a sight to behold. It is even possible to spot reptiles such as iguanas and turtles basking in the sun.

Among the most outstanding examples of endemic fauna are the yellow-faced parakeet, the Santa Marta sun hummingbird and the Sierra Nevada marsupial mouse.
