KEEPING NATURE TOURS

WHO ARE WE ?

We are lovers of photography, adventure, nature and its conservation.

A WORLD TO DISCOVER

For years, we have combined photography and biology to make a contribution to the conservation of biodiversity; our individual experience includes the discovery of undescribed species, rediscoveries of species that were considered extinct, the contribution to the conservation of hectares of forest in Ecuador and Colombia, projects on conservation and warfare in the Colombian territory and the publication of more than 15 scientific articles, among others.

Our story

About

We make tourism and photography a valuable educational tool, exalting the biological diversity of the planet, our close relationship with nature and its impacts to address the challenges of conservation. In Keeping Nature – Biodiversity & Conservation we believe in community work, empowering the inhabitants of the areas we visit with a focus towards conservation, strengthening good environmental processes and bringing knowledge to rural and urban communities to care for our planet.

After several years traveling and learning about biodiversity, geography, photography and everything that encompasses a great country called Colombia. Jhonattan Vanegas, nature photographer and Gustavo Acosta, landscape photographer, decided to join an expedition with a group of photographers interested in exploring a large area in the department of Guaviare, from there was born the idea to continue making expeditions, to share and learn from everything that has to teach us the world of nature photography.

Increasing our work team, adding different photographers, our community continues to grow to offer our travelers different learning and photographic points of view.

Passion for nature

Our higher purpose

Photography allowed us that subtle contact with biodiversity, giving us a different look at the unknown, allowing us to understand behaviors, biology and interactions of species with the ecosystems present in a megadiverse country like ours. To make known the landscapes and those corners of a country with an incomparable beauty that also shouts the need for protection. We are inspired by the same complexity of the organisms and landscapes we portray, it is to try to understand their way of perceiving the world around them, it is to sit down, forget about everything and reduce your world to a moment.

moment where a link is created between your essence and what we are portraying, is to feel the freedom that only allows you the contemplation of the flight of a bird, the jump of a frog, the trail of a mammal or the weaving of a spider. It is to try to capture and transmit through images that essence of nature.

Our images are an attempt to portray this exuberant and majestic world, an attempt to give a different look at nature that for many is unknown, an attempt to create a bridge between biodiversity and memory, contributing a small grain of sand to the construction of territories aware of the natural wealth with which we share our environment.

I am Jhonattan Vanegas, a Colombian herpetologist, conservationist, and wildlife photographer. Admiring nature and dinosaurs since childhood strengthened my passion for the world of amphibians and reptiles, which continues to this day. Over the last three years, I have guided wildlife photographers and nature enthusiasts on photography tours across different regions of Colombia. I have published 14 scientific articles contributing to the knowledge and conservation of various species in Colombia. Since 2012, I have worked on various environmental consulting projects as a herpetologist and photographer, which has led me to explore every corner of Colombian territory. My photographic work has been published in Enfoque Visual, RowZine, the Colombian Amphibians and Reptiles Catalog, among other magazines, books, and photographic exhibitions.

I use photography and biology as tools to promote conservation through different initiatives that allow me to contribute to the understanding of species’ behaviors and interactions with ecosystems. These two passions have allowed me to take a different look at the unknown and hidden landscapes that exist beneath the mysterious scenery of mountains and plains, with the goal of creating a bridge between memory and nature.
